Town of New Canaan is located in Fairfield County, Connecticut.  New Canaan was incorporated in May, 1801 and was taken from Norwalk and Stamford. The area is 22.5 sq. miles and the population is estimated at 18,000

The town is a residential community with a compact business district of specialty shops, and some small office buildings.

New Canaan Nature Center
144 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, 06840. (Rte. 124)  40 acres of diverse habitats with walking trails. Discovery Center with hands-on natural science exhibits and live animals, gift shop. Horticultural exhibits include solar greenhouse; bird and butterfly perennial, herb, wildflower and naturalists' gardens   Buildings open Mon.-Sat. 9-4, closed holidays. Grounds open daily, dawn to dusk.  Donation. (203) 966-9577
